U.S. Rig Count Drops Significantly

Canadian numbers down by three

This week’s Baker Hughes rig count shows that U.S. numbers declined by 19, resulting in the total count falling to 916. Compared to this time last year, numbers are down 128.

Canada is also down compared to last week with a total count of 139, representing a decrease of three rigs. Compared to this time last year, its total is down by 90.

Breakdown by region

Of the regions tracked by Baker Hughes, one experienced an increase in rigs this week:

  • Mississippian is at three, up one from last week.

On the other hand, five regions experienced a decrease:

  • Ardmore Woodford is at four, down one from last week.
  • Cana Woodford is at 45, down one from last week.
  • DJ-Niobrara is at 25, down five from last week.
  • Marcellus is at 53, down three from last week.
  • Permian is at 434, down seven from last week.

All other regions saw no net change in active rig count.
