Stocks in
Canada's
biggest market to a one-week high as higher crude oil prices supported energy stocks, while financial and industrial shares also advanced.
The S&P/TSX Composite Index climbed 94.29 to open Wednesday at 13,520.52.
The Canadian dollar spiked 0.59 cents to 77.07 cents
U.S.
Lululemon Athletica Inc reported a higher-than-expected quarterly profit, helped by strong sales during the holiday shopping period.
Credit Suisse cut the rating on Great-West Lifeco to underperform from neutral.
Great-West shares dropped 20 cents to $35.52.
Among metals and mining shares, the biggest winners so far, Teck Resources took on 50 cents, or 5.2%, to $10.15.
In health-care, Concordia Healthcare jumped $1.77, or 5.9%, to $31.87.
ON BAYSTREET
The TSX Venture Exchange gained 1.3 points to 578.51
All but two of the 13 TSX subgroups roared ahead to start the day, with metals and mining up 3.4%, health-care 1.8% haler, and consumer discretionary stocks better by 1%.
Only gold, which dropped 1.9%, and materials, off 0.2%, missed the celebration.
ON WALLSTREET
Stocks stateside traded higher Wednesday as equities extended Tuesday afternoon's gains following Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen's cautious stance on the path of tightening.
The Dow Jones Industrials leaped 125.43 points to begin Wednesday at 17,758.54, with Apple's 2.5% hike contributing the most to gains
The S&P 500 moved up 13.52 points to 2,068.53, with information technology leading nine sectors higher and utilities the only decliner.
The NASDAQ index gained 45.21 points to 4,891.83.
Cowen upgraded Apple on Wednesday to outperform from market perform and raised the price target to $135.00
U.S.
, based on expectations that year-over-year comparable sales and forward estimates have bottomed.
Prices for the 10-year Treasury gained ground, lowering yields to 1.84% from Tuesday's 1.9%. Treasury prices and yields move in opposite directions.
