AUSTIN, Texas, June 20, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Skyonic Corporation has approved the appointment of Dr. Mark Little as their next Chairman of the Board. Until December 31, 2015, Dr. Little was the SVP, Director of General Electric Global Research and Chief Technology Officer of GE and was only the ninth director in that organization's 105 year history. Prior to this role at GE, Dr. Little was Vice President of GE Energy's power-generation segment headquartered in Schenectady, New York. During his tenure he developed fundamental technologies to help GE compete and grow in every one of its businesses: energy, oil & gas, aviation, healthcare, transportation, consumer products, and financial services.
- Earlier in his career, as a business leader, he turned around a global business unit from an annual loss to a multi-billion dollar annual profit—a unique achievement within GE. In doing so, he beat operating plans through every phase of the business cycle.
- In addition, Mark was responsible for the acquisition and integration of a bankrupt energy business, positioning it to become a very profitable business powerhouse today.
- On joining Skyonic's Board, Dr. Little stated, "I am thrilled to be joining the Skyonic team. Skyonic's technology has enormous potential to produce high-quality, low-cost chemical products while actually reducing carbon emissions. I look forward to using my extensive experience in building technology businesses to help Skyonic grow very quickly."
- Dr. Little will join Skyonic's other BOD members Phil Ameen, Carl Berg, Joe Jones, Nadeem Nisar, and Frank Egan.
Founder and CEO Joe Jones noted that "having Mark's background in running a world-class research facility is invaluable as he understands, from a visceral level, the process of bringing up new technologies. We have our first plant up and running, but we have a number of other patented methods and processes that will truly impact the reduction of CO2, SOx, NOx and particulates on a global level once they are fully developed and implemented. Mark has seen other emerging technologies mature to a commercial scale and that perspective will help us grow to be leaders in emission reduction technology all over the world."
Capitol SkyMine is Skyonic's first commercial scale chlor-carbonate plant featuring their proprietary carbon capture and beneficial reuse technology. It produces sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), hydrochloric acid (HCl), caustic soda and bleach, which are currently being sold into the industrial marketplace. In addition to reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, the patented SkyMine® process is designed to remove acid gases such as sulfur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx), mercury and particulates. This first-of-its-kind plant is located adjacent to the Capitol Aggregates coal-fired cement plant in San Antonio, Texas, USA.
