PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) — Police in Mississippi say no injuries or fatalities have been reported after a large explosion and fire at a natural gas plant.
Pascagoula Police Capt. Shannon Broom says authorities received a report about the explosion at a BP plant around 11:30 Monday night.
He says the company reported that while employees were at the site when the blast happened, everyone was safe. He says authorities aren't aware of any injuries.
WLOX-TV reports emergency crews have the site blocked off and traffic diverted as they work to secure the scene.
The Jackson County emergency services director was expected to issue a statement with more details early Tuesday morning.
BP couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
Pascagoula is located along the Gulf of Mexico, about 30 miles east of Biloxi.
