Down 230 people after layoffs

Pioneer Natural Resources recently laid off a quarter of its workforce but continues to drill in the Permian Basin of West Texas.
The Irving-based oil company is seeking permission from the Railroad Commission of Texas to drill 10 new horizontal wells on three leases split between Martin, Midland and Upton counties. All 10 wells target the Spraberry field at total depths ranging from 10,500 too 10,865 feet.
Despite laying off 230 workers earlier this month, Pioneer remains ranked as the second most prolific driller in Texas. The company received 455 drilling permits in 2018 and has filed for 183 so far this year.
With nearly 3,800 leases in Texas, Pioneer’s wells produced more than 93 million barrels of crude oil and nearly 280.5 billion cubic feet of natural gas in 2018.
Permian Basin
The saltwater disposal arm of Anadarko Petroleum Corp. is preparing for a new round of projects in West Texas. APC Water Holdings plans to drill four injection wells on a pair of leases in Loving County. The proposed saltwater disposal wells target the El Mar field of the Delaware geological layer down to depth of 7,500 feet.
Eagle Ford Shale
Houston oil company Penn Virginia is planning to drill four horizontal wells split between a pair of leases in Fayette and Gonzales counties. All four wells target the Eagleville field of the Eagle Ford geological layer down to a total depth of 14,5000 feet.
Haynesville Shale
Tyler oil & gas company Tanos Exploration is seeking permission to drill a pair of horizontal wells on its AP Liston lease in Panola County. The two gas wells target the Carthage field of the Haynesville geological layer down to total depths of 11,098 feet.
Barnett Shale
Exxon Mobil subsidiary XTO Energy is preparing to recomplete a horizontal well on its Barber W Unit lease in Parker County. Located about five miles southeast of Aledo, the well targets the Newark East field of the Barnett geological layer down to a total depth of 6,428 feet.
Conventionals
Abilene oil company Sojourner Drilling Corp. is preparing for a trio of projects in Fisher County. The company plans to drill two vertical wells targeting the Rice Brothers field on its Stowe lease at a depth of 5,500 feet. A saltwater disposal well planned for the company’s Tutt SWD lease targets the Bridjourner field at a depth of 7,500 feet.
