Norway Inflation Eases As Expected In April

OSLO (dpa-AFX) - Norway's consumer price inflation slowed as expected in April, though marginally, figures from Statistics Norway showed Tuesday.

The consumer price index rose 3.2 percent year-over-year in April, in line with expectations, slightly slower than March's 5-year high of 3.3 percent climb.

Prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages grew 3.8 percent annually in April and those of clothing and footwear went up by 4.8 percent.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.3 percent in April as expected by economists.

At the same time, core inflation held steady at 3.3 percent in April. The figure also matched consensus estimate.

Month-on-month, the core CPI climbed 0.4 percent in April, faster than the expected rise of 0.2 percent.

Separately, the statistical office announced that producer prices declined 14.3 percent yearly in April, following a 14.9 percent plunge in the preceding month. The index has been falling since July 2014.

Compared to the previous month, producer prices rose 0.8 percent in April, slower than March's 1.3 percent spike.

Higher prices on crude oil and refined petroleum products were the main contributors to the overall increase in the PPI, the agency said.
