WILLIAMSPORT — If Ted Cruz is elected president, he said, the federal government will not regulate fracking and the war on coal will end.
Those were two of the promises made by the Texas senator who is seeking the Republican nomination during a campaign stop in Williamsport Friday. Pennsylvania’s primary election is Tuesday.
But Cruz did not answer the question of whether he had contacted any of the candidates for delegate to the GOP national convention to ask for their support. Although their names will be on the primary ballot, the ballot does not indicate which candidate any individual delegate supports.
In response, Cruz said he is barnstorming across the state in an effort to earn the support of the people of Pennsylvania. He claimed there are those in the media “who want to paint Pennsylvania as a suburb of Manhattan.”
“I think the people of Pennsylvania have a lot more common sense than the liberal elite Democrats in New York,” he said.
