ClearPath Action Fund Defends Curbelo Against False Attacks

New cable, digital ads highlight $500K campaign touting his true clean energy record

WASHINGTON, Oct. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- ClearPath Action Fund will run new cable and digital ads in a $500,000-plus effort through Election Day to defend Rep. Carlos Curbelo against erroneous attacks by Democrats and to tout his true clean energy record.

"Extreme liberals are making false claims about Carlos Curbelo's environmental record, but you deserve to know the truth," states a new 30-second digital ad. "Carlos Curbelo puts South Florida and the environment first - and he has the record to prove it."

The digital ad is in response to claims by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee that PolitiFact rated "mostly false" and labeled as "cherry-picking" of Curbelo's record.

ClearPath Action Fund will also run a new cable TV ad campaign in the Florida Keys touting Curbelo's extensive clean energy and conservation record, bringing the total committed spending through Election Day in Curbelo's race to more than $500,000 since the organization named him its inaugural House endorsement in late June.

That includes extending an existing innovative bilingual digital and mail campaign run by Anthro touting his conservative clean energy record and including buys on Facebook, Google, Twitter, SpotX and 4info.

The reality is that during his first two years in Congress, Curbelo has swiftly become a leading voice on promoting innovative solutions to spur clean energy and conservation.

Highlights include:

  • Supporting legislation making permanent a key carbon-capture technology incentive
  • Supporting increased funding for the U.S. Department of Energy's advanced energy research program, known as ARPA-E
  • Sponsoring legislation to better ensure the recovery of cleanup costs and other damages tied to oil spills that occur in foreign waters but that affect U.S. waters, including off the coast of Florida

He was also one of 11 original House Republican supporters of a resolution acknowledging "the consequences of a changing climate" and citing the responsibility of Congress to identify and support "economically viable, and broadly supported private and public solutions."
