Ryan Field House and Walter Athletics Center – Evanston, IL – Best
Project in Sports/Entertainment

At the end of 2015, Barton Malow, together with JV partner Walsh, took
on the construction of a new lakefront athletics facility that will
serve as a training and recreation center for years to come. The result
was the Ryan Fieldhouse and Walter Athletics Center, a
427,000-square-foot complex designed with the success of
student-athletes in mind. Submitted by engineering consulting company
WSP, the project was named the Best Sports/Entertainment Project by
Engineering-News Record.

The facility gives Northwestern student-athletes state-of-the-art
facilities, resources and more. It features an indoor practice field,
competition and recreation venues, an auditorium, sports medicine and
nutrition centers, in addition to designated training spaces for
Division 1 and intramural sports.

"It's transformative for the football program and those incredible
student-athletes. It's also transformative for many of our other 506
varsity athletes, 1,500 club sports athletes, 4,000 intramural athletes
and the entire community," said University President Morton Schapiro at
the Ryan Fieldhouse opening ceremony earlier this year.

Little Caesars Arena – Detroit, MI – Award of Merit in
Sports/Entertainment

Barton Malow, in partnership with Hunt and White Construction (BMHW
team), served as the construction manager for Little Caesars Arena,
which is at the heart of the burgeoning District, and is the home of the
Detroit Red Wings and Pistons.

The 20,000-seat arena is a symbol of innovation for Detroit, and serves
as crucial business generator in the area. However, the arena provides
more than housing for sports; it is a place for residents and tourists
to come together for community, sport and entertainment events. The
arena is the epicenter of activity in the neighborhood, containing a
glass-covered concourse for restaurants and shops. The project also
included a parking garage, a subterranean practice rink and office space.

Holland Energy Park – Holland, MI – Best Project in Energy/Industrial

Submitted by HDR Architecture, the Holland Energy Park presents
reliable, world-class infrastructure that provides a sustainable,
long-term power source in natural gas. As winner of ENR’s Best
Energy/Industrial Project, the forward-thinking facilities provide a
green landscape for public use, and serves as a way for people of the
community to connect with one another.

As for resource harvesting, the Combined Cycle Natural Gas facility is a
2x1 set up utilizing Siemens SGT-800 natural gas turbines operating in
tandem with two Vogt Heat Recovery Steam Generators and a Siemens
SST-400 steam turbine generator. Barton Malow used its in-house trade
labor workforce to self-perform much of the construction activities,
including civil sitework, concrete, structural steel, interiors,
centerline erection and all boilermaker work done.

Michigan State University Facility for Rare Isotope Beams - East
Lansing, MI – Award of Merit in Higher Education/Research

The Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) presented Barton Malow with a
unique challenge: building a state-of-the-art center that allows
researchers to study rare materials. The 250,000 square-foot facility
includes a linear accelerator underground tunnel, target gallery area
and several designated support spaces.

Over 1,000,000 man-hours were put into the building the facility, which
included massive excavation efforts and a 3,200-cubic yard concrete
pour. In addition, the project team utilized Building Information
Modeling (BIM) as the technology was first being introduced to the
field. Submitted by SmithGroupJJR, the project was given the Award of
Merit in Higher Education/Research.
